1.The
1SR bridge program uses Auxiliarists to report problems
on bridges over navigable waterways to the Coast Guard's
district bridge office. This
enables
the staff at the Coast Guard Bridge Branch to contact
the bridge owner and get the discrepancy fixed.
The program has two
major components:
-
Bridge
Discrepancy Reports - These are
problem reports, submitted by any member, of
discrepancies observed on an area bridge
(e.g., unlit lights, broken signs, illegible
signs & clearance gauges, etc.). Bridge
discrepancy reports are submitted via the
on-line
Bridge Discrepancy Reporting System.
All Coxswains are encouraged
to keep a copy of the bridge discrepancy
form on their operational facilities to
enable discrepancy reporting when a problem
is observed on an area bridge.
-
Bridge Surveys - A bridge survey
is a comprehensive review and report of a bridge
done by certified Aids Verifiers who have been
trained in the bridge program and specifically assigned to
survey a given bridge. In doing a bridge
survey, the Aids Verifier does a detailed review
of bridge lights, signs, fenders, gauges & prior
discrepancy reports to see if bridge is in
compliance with its C.G. bridge permit. The
survey also checks the bridge against the
specific requirements for that bridge listed in the
Coast Pilot, and checks for repairs made after
prior discrepancies were reported. Bridge
surveys are reported
via the on-line
Bridge Discrepancy Reporting System or
on the
1SR Bridge Survey Form.
Completed bridge discrepancy forms and
bridge survey forms are sent directly to the
ADSO-NS
Bridge, with a copy to the member's FSO-AN and
SO-AN. Digital photos are required on bridge
surveys, and are strongly encouraged on bridge
discrepancy reports.
